After talking to lots of women, I discovered many of them mourned the loss of their libido. They hated being too tired, too fat, too thin, too disinterested, too unloved, too angry, too sad, too busy (their words, not mine) to be able to feel desire. They longed for this to be different.
It got me thinking about the idea of a pill, like Viagra, that women could take to restore instantly their desire for sex.
But it is not so simple. I asked a scientist friend whose company looked into this very issue and said that unless the pill treated a very specific bodily malfunction, such a drug would never be approved by the FDA and therefore would never be sold.
You see drugs like Viagra treat a very specific problem, they allow men to achieve an erection in what once would have been their very flaccid and unresponsive penises. A cure for ‘not tonight I’m too…’ is not a physiological or medical problem with an easy fix.
So that magic pill is still a long way off. But what if it wasn’t and I could tell you that right now this drug existed, what powers would it give you?
Here is a list of what could happen when you’ve popped this magical pill-
1-You look in the mirror at your naked body and acknowledge the ‘hot’ reflection you see.
2-You get back the energy you once had and completely shock your partner by instigating sex … on a week night! (and not his birthday).
3- The pheromones kick in and suddenly you become sexually attractive to that person you’ve desired but haven’t had the confidence to approach.
4-Your verve and style light up the room. Everyone wants to talk to you at parties, dinners and work functions.
5-You give yourself permission to take time out and pamper yourself, re-attune with your body, in readiness for a night of uninhibited sex.
AS IF!… I hear you say, because no one is fixing the root cause of the problem and you still have to get to work, manage the kids, run your house, find a partner etc etc …
So maybe we could get a bit cheeky here and slip this magic pill into your partners drink because perhaps they are the one who needs to change before you have any hope of getting your libido back.
What magic powers would it give your lover? Here are a few ideas.
1-Your lover will organise a baby sitter, cleaner, replacement at work or whatever it takes to free you up from your every day commitments (for one night at least so there’s no excuses).
2-Having done this your lover doesn’t pressure you but gives you the chance to get your head around this new found freedom and is quite happy to let you curl up in bed with a good book, maybe even get a good nights sleep, and is content to do this many times until you’re ready for something a little more adventurous.
3-Your lover becomes a fantastic cook and not only feeds you but has thought to do all the shopping, planned the weekly menu, and leaves the kitchen spotlessly clean after you’ve eaten. You never have to carry the burden of ‘What’s for dinner’ again!
4-Your lover organises a ‘Raphael Make-over’ and meets you at ‘Grossi Florentino‘ with a bottle of chilled Prosecco. He stands as you enter the room, takes your hand and whispers in your ear that you are the sexiest woman in the room. Then escorts you to the penthouse suite of that fabulous boutique hotel you’ve only ever read about. He’s made all the bookings, you haven’t had to do a thing. You arrive to a room filled with your favourite flowers, a hot bath run, chocolates and champagne waiting.
5-Your partner lets you know what a brilliant, woman, mother, wife, friend, lover, worker you are, and acknowledges that without you, and all you do, he couldn’t possibly exist! And you feel valued and loved and quickly race him off to the nearest bedroom (or anyplace that takes your fancy) where you make love with abandon and realise you might not need the pills after all.
Please tell me what magical powers you would like this pill to have….the most inspired response will receive a signed copy of Awakening.
